Help Stamp Out Hunger on May 12, 2012!

Saturday, May 12, 2012 marks the 20th anniversary of the Stamp Out Hunger national food drive, and United Way of Erie County is partnering with Sandusky and Huron postal carriers in order to assist needy families in the community. On this day, we ask that you please leave a donation of non-perishable food items in a bag by your mailbox for your letter carrier to collect to deliver to a local food bank.

While the drive has been a success each year, the needs are particularly sad for 2012. One out of every six people are at risk for hunger in Erie County. 77 percent of households are food insecure, meaning they do not always know where they will find their next meal, and 44 percent of households have said they had to choose between paying for rent or a mortgage and food.

Your donation can make a big difference, so please donate non-perishable food items for your letter carrier to collect on May 12 and help us Stamp Out Hunger! For more information on how you can help, please contact the office of United Way of Erie County at 419-625-4672 or by e-mail at
