Popcorn Wagon
Beginning on Tuesday, May 29, member agencies of The United Way of Erie County will begin staffing the Red Wagon in Washington Park between 11am and 2pm Monday through Saturday, and during many special events. This includes the Sandusky Art Walks taking place in downtown Sandusky on the first Thursday of each month (through December 1) between 5pm and 9pm.
The Red Wagon has been a Sandusky landmark in Washington Park since 1910 and was entered in the National Register of Historic Places by the National Park Service in 1982. In 2002, it was donated to the City of Sandusky and completely refurbished using grant dollars. Since unveiling these renovations on July 4, 2003, member agencies of The United Way of Erie County have provided volunteer staff to sell fresh popcorn and other refreshments each season.
We appreciate the in-kind sponsorship provided by Citizens Bank and Sandusky Packaging which help to offset the costs of the popcorn, salt, oil and boxes. A percentage of the fundsgenerated through popcorn sales are placed into the City of Sandusky's Red Wagon endowment for future maintenance.
