United Way of Erie County has various volunteer opportunities available.

Ohio Benefit Bank
United Way of Erie County has been working with Second Harvest Food Bank and Erie Huron CAC to recruit and train counselors for the Ohio Benefit Bank Program, which provides assistance to people with low-to-moderate incomes.  Ohio Benefit Bank is an on-line program in which a volunteer can assist a client in learning if the client may be eligible for food stamps, cash assistance, child care, HEAP and other governmental benefits.  In addition to government benefits, United Way of Erie County is seeking volunteers for its Ohio Benefit Bank Tax Assistance Program. Ohio Benefit Bank Tax Counselors assist clients in preparing their income taxes at no charge.  Volunteers will help individuals file their income tax returns and assist them in e-filing in as few as 7 days.  This may be accomplished through one-on-one sessions or at Community Tax Clinics.

Volunteers are required to attend a 10 hour training program to learn how to use the Ohio Benefit Bank software.  There is additional training for tax assistance. Volunteers do not need to be an expert in tax preparation or the IRS tax codes.
United Way of Erie County anticipates hosting tax preparation sites during the tax season.

Training is provided by staff of Ohio Benefit Bank.
